Access to Hunting Properties Gaining permission to hunt on private property isn’t easy. The welcome signs hanging on fences spell out our chances with words like “Trespassers Prosecuted” and “No Shooting”. To top it off, experienced hunters with the properties and knowledge of how to gain them understandably guard their turf and knowledge like an American pit-bull with a T-bone steak! Subsequently there are plenty of people out there who hold the interest and firearms to hunt, but lack the property. So what can they do to improve their odds of finding a place to hunt? Text and photography by Adrian Kenney. |

Hunting from Hides No doubt since Homo erectus first stood upright and threw a pointy stick, the species has used camouflage as an aid to feed themselves and their tribe. At some stage of a hunt, many of us have hidden in ambush, finger poised on the trigger for the next meal or trophy, hopefully remaining undetected till the final moment. Getting something physical to hide behind though is often easier said than done. Text and photography by Rick Huckstepp. |

Gundog in the City... Part 8 The Young Adult Dog In this second article about the young adult period for your dog, think about other young adult animals, and you’ll be able to expect what is coming. She will have periods where she’ll loose focus, there’ll be times she’ll push her weight around and try you and your family. If you have put in the time and been patient to date, your relationship will be strong, you second guess her pretty well, and the training time with you and her “jobs” will be the best times she has all day. You are well set to continue her education. The following commands will add to her usefulness and complete her basic education. Text and photography by Charles Hayden. |
