Fox Season Most hunters have a particular time of year they look forward to more than any other; be it a prescribed duck season opening or perhaps an unofficial time of year that the individual hunter perceives best to hunt their favourite game animal. Increasingly each year, more hunters look forward to the unofficial beginning of fox season. Text and photography by Adrian Kenney. |

An Unlikely Place for Pigs West from Mareeba mineral-rich ranges extend finger-like from the northern Gulf country well into the Cape York Peninsula. Several large rivers, including the Mitchell and the Palmer, drain these hills and provide water for grazing stock and gold miners. It’s an unlikely place for pigs but the feral hordes are well established. Text and photography by Dick Eussen. |

Trophies and Meat I had a call from my Queensland mates early May, asking if I thought we could get a sambar. I replied in the affirmative. I didn’t realise how many deer I would see for the week when I replied. As it turned out the place I visited had not been hunted by me for 12-15 years and what I found there certainly gave me a surprise. Text and photography by David Drangsholt. |

North to Alaska The email from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game got straight to the point. I had successfully drawn a Barren Ground Caribou tag in the 2014 ballot. I re-read the email and let the news sink in. Yep, I definitely had a tag which was both great and unexpected. Text and photography by Rodney Williams. |

A Passing Era Over time and as we live in an ever changing world, a way of life or the way things are done also change, and while we wish certain things didn’t change, it’s an inevitable constant over which we have no control. Text and photography by Sam Garro. |

Up the River! People used to say to us, where did you get that? Our answer was always “up the river” (meaning the Brisbane River). In other words, we are not going to tell you. So when people tell you they got it up the river, you will never know where they got it! Text and photography by Perry Magowan. |

Bushrangers in Each Colony From Toodyay in Western Australia to Beechworth in Victoria or down the Heritage Highway in Tasmania, Australians love to commemorate their bushranging history. Bushranger festivals, monuments, plaques and reenactments are popular in towns that can claim a bushranging incident in their district. Commemorations are common today, especially as we are now well into the 150th anniversaries of our major gold rush era bushranger activities. Though some States were more prominent in our bushranging history, all States and Territories, then known as colonies, had their lawless trouble makers. Interesting but often lesser known bushrangers from each colony are featured in this article. Text and photography by Gregory Powell. |
