Interstate Mates Interstate mates; or should that be, “in a state” mates! Recently I received a call from my good friend, Mark, asking if it would be a problem with my work commitments to go away for a few days hunting. “Work commitments! You’ve got to be kidding, I only work ten hours a week, my only problem will be squeezing you in between hunts.” “What about Gina?” “No she won’t want to go.” I jokingly replied. Colonel Townsend Whelen Colonel Townsend Whelen stood alongside such hunting and gun writing legends as Jack O’Connor and Elmer Keith. He hunted big game, experimented a lot with different rifle calibres, knew much about guns and shooting, and was an excellent marksman. However, it was the differences rather than the similarities between Townsend Whelen and his contemporaries that are of most interest. Text and photography by David Duffy. |
